Larry J. Carey, Director of Music

Larry has been the Director of Music since November 2001.  He directs the Chancel Choir, the Chancel Handbell Choir, directs and plans the Twelfth Night Boar’s Head Celebration and coordinates the Vesper Musicale Conert Series.

With over 25 years of teaching experience, Mr. Carey has prepared students for careers in opera, musical theatre, acoustic alternative, sacred and country music. His high school students have been accepted at some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the United States and many have been awarded half to full tuition scholarships.

 Larry served as the Eastern Regional Governor for the National Association of Teachers of Sings for four years and as the auditions chairperson for the previous four years. He has been an active member of the Music Teachers National Association and the American Choral Directors Association where he presented workshops and master classes for both organizations.

 The Bel Canto Singers of York, Pennsylvania, a chamber music ensemble specializing in Renaissance Music was founded and directed by Mr. Carey. They appeared throughout the greater mid-Atlantic region for over 20 years performing at colleges and universities, and on community and church concert series.

 Mr. Carey has been employed as organist, choir and handbell director in churches in Pennsylvania, Kansas, New York and New Jersey for more than 30 years.

 Music has been an integral part of his life since his childhood years when he performed as a boy soprano at many conferences, conventions, churches and competitions. He is currently the Director of Music at the Bernardsville, NJ United Methodist Church, Lecturer in Music at Messiah College, Grantham, PA, and has private studios in Somerville, NJ and York, PA.
