Concert for Critical Times

Music Program

                                                                                                              May 10, 2011

The Concert for Critical Times on Saturday evening May 7 was a great success.  Although the attendance was not stellar the outcome was quite rewarding.  There were many bags and boxes of food collected for The Food Bank Network of Somerset County including canned fruit and meats as well as vegetables, cereals, peanut butter, jelly, pasta and sauces plus an excess of $260 in cash to purchase additional food.  Shirley Ansley, a volunteer at FBNOSC, gave an informative presentation about the programs and workings of the organization.  The collection for Heifer International exceeded $1225 which is the equivalent of the Milk Menagerie (a heifer, a water buffalo and two goats).

The music for the evening was so inspiring and uplifting. The Chancel Choir and friends, nineteen singers, presented six anthems accompanied by piano, Larry Carey, and organ F. Paul Dickey.  The highlight was a thrilling rendition of Majesty and Glory by Tom Fettke with organ and piano accompaniment.  The Chancel Bells performed seven selections including two Christmas selections, two Easter selections and a rousing presentation of Affirmation by Kevin McChesney.  The remainder of the concert featured the three section leaders of the Chancel Choir, Audrey Kline, soprano, Joellyn Giovetsis, mezzo-soprano, and William Vallandigham, baritone.  Additional guest soloists included Nicole Guberman, soprano, Chloe Ribeiro, soprano and Adam Morris, baritone.  Violinist Leslie Parker performed three selections ranging from Gershwin to Chausson and Kaitlynn Curtis, flutist, accompanied two Chancel Choir selections.

Additional contributions to either The Food Bank Network of Somerset County or Heifer International may be sent to the church, Bernardsville U M Church, 22 Church Street, Bernardsville, NJ 07924.

Thank you to everyone that helped to make this event a grand success.

Haiti Continues to Need Your Response!

The Nation of Haiti has sustained great devastation and loss of life in the aftermath of the earthquake there on January 12th, 2010.  Although suffering is a daily struggle for this nation, they need the help and compassion of others more than ever.  Even before the quake, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) was in Haiti working to relieve severe health issues.  Sadly, the Director of UMCOR, the Reverend Sam Dixon, was killed in a collapse.  Several other United Methodist workers were also killed or injured.  UMCOR will continue to send workers and monetary aid to assist in the recovery and rebuilding efforts.  More than anything else, they need financial support and our prayers for strength, wisdom, and a non-violent rebuilding of the nation.  100% of your donation to UMCOR goes directly to Haitian Relief.  There are NO ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS!  Please click on the links below for more information and to donate.  May God bless you and bless the Haitian People in their recovery.
